The Wiki Loves Africa 2021 international photography contest ended on 30th April 2021. The winners were first announced at the Wikimania 2021 virtual conference.
Since the pandemic is still on, this year’s contest was themed “Health+Wellness”, with the aim of giving people the opportunity to share their adaptive lifestyle during a pandemic.
For the fifth edition of Wiki Africa Hour: Wiki Loves Africa 2021: Meet the winners, Ceslause Ogbonnaya hosted guests like Nicky Newman (Member of Wiki Loves Africa 2021 Int’l Jury), Wilfredor Rodriguez (Member of Wiki Loves Africa 2021 Int’l Jury), Ewien van Bergeijk-Kwant (1st prize winner), Ozavogu Abdusalam Khalid (2nd prize contract photographer), Gabriel Amuzu Joe (3rd prize winner), Kevin Rack (Traditional prize winner), Bouba Kam’s (Best Video prize winner), Minette Lontsie (Special collection prize winner coordinator) and Max MBAKOP (One of the Special collection prize winners photographers).
- Nicky Newman and Wilfredor Rodriguez from Wiki Loves Africa 2021 Int’l Jury were invited to give insight on the jury process, and how they chose the photos/videos that won the international prizes.
- Ewien van Bergeijk-Kwant (1st prize winner), Ozavogu Abdusalam Khalid (2nd prize contract photographer), Gabriel Amuzu Joe (3rd prize winner), Kevin Rack (Traditional prize winner) were invited to talk about their photography/videography journey in decolonizing the image of Africa; shifting the African narrative on Wikipedia, one photo/video at a time, through Wiki Loves Africa international photography contests.
- Minette Lontsie (Special collection prize winner coordinator) and Max MBAKOP (One of the Special collection prize winners photographers) was invited to talk about the impact of the Nos Jardin initiative on Wiki Loves Africa 2021 international photography contest, and what it took to come up with the special collection photos.
