WikiAfrica Hour is a monthly vodcast to support the activities of the WikiAfrica movement and wikimedians across Africa.
Launched in 2021, WikiAfrica Hour initiates frank, sometimes controversial conversations on the last Wednesday of each month. The live broadcast is produced and facilitated by Wiki In Africa’s Isla Haddow-Flood and Florence Devouard. Donia Domiaty is the current WikiAfrica Hour production coordinator. WikiAfrica News, prepared by Nonny Ntlahla and presented by Nonny and Donia, ensures Africa’s Wikimedians do not miss out on opportunities from the wider global Open community. In 2024, key figures from the community are guest hosts in a revitalized format of WikiAfrica Hour, which now also features an “In Focus” segment.

In this powerful episode of WikiAfrica Hour, we chat with young Wikimedians who are leading campaigns, building communities, and shaping the future of Open knowledge.
Our guests share their journeys, proudest achievements, and what it takes to thrive as young leaders in the movement. We dive into the challenges they face, how they’re using Wikimedia to build skills, and what true youth inclusion should look like by 2030.

Are there any disadvantages of adoption of 50:50 presentation in all setting?
Can recent national or global attacks on DIE initiatives might affect our movement ?
All these questions and more will be raised and discussed on Wednesday, 26th March, 16 UTC.
What do we mean by decolonising knowledge? Why is it important to document that on Wikimedia projects? What are the main settled projects inside (and even outside) Wikimedia concerning this topic? How can we improve these existing initiatives and encourage others to start documenting?
All these questions and beyond are answered by guests who are experienced in this topic during this episode.
In this episode, guests who have had experience working on offline projects and initiatives will discuss their methods, digital divide, ways of housing and distributing static content, and what support is offered from the Wikimedia Foundation, chapters and user groups. We will also analyse examples of settled offline projects that serve Africa's Wikimedia communities and beyond.

This special session of WikiAfrica Hour is dedicated to celebrating the 2024 Wiki Loves Africa International media contest winners. Under the theme Africa Creates, 14,000+ images, videos and audio were submitted.
