We were honoured to be able to launch the WikiAfrica Hour vlog with an interview with outgoing Wikimedia Foundation CEO Katherine Maher.
WikiAfrica Hour is a monthly session where members of Africa’s Wikimedians can chat, learn and discuss all things Wikimedia and the Open Movement. Whilst the platform has been created by Wiki In Africa, and in it’s early stages is being supported by the Wikipedia Weekly team, it is intended to be owned by the members of the Wikimedia and Open movements across Africa.
The first episode was aired live on the 23rd April 2021 at 15:00 UTC and was hosted by Ceslause Ogbonnaya. You can watch this episode below.
Throughout Katherine Maher’s tenure as CEO of the Wikimedia Foundation, she has been visibly supportive of diversity and inclusion. Her support of Africa’s Wikimedians has been evident time and time again, but especially when she attended WikiIndaba in Ghana in 2017, WikiIndaba 2018 in Tunisia and Wikimania Cape Town in 2018.
WikiAfrica Hour is activated by Wiki In Africa in support of Wikimedia usergroups across the WikiAfrica movement. The initiative is funded by the Wikimedia Foundation.
